In 2024, Ibama authorized the termination of the Social and Economic Aspects Monitoring Program, with an understanding that all the goals set out in the PBA were achieved, with positive impacts and significant contributions to the affected municipalities and local communities. Implemented between 2011 and 2024, the program monitored the progress of 32 indicators within 11 social and economic dimensions in the Area of Direct Influence (ADI) and Area of Indirect Influence (AII) of the Belo Monte HPP, during the different project phases*.

The indicators covered demographics, migration movements, education, public safety, municipal finances, commerce, industry, services, infrastructure, agriculture, and living and health conditions. The information gathered provided support for Norte Energia to understand social, economic, and environmental dynamics, in addition to supporting public policies and strategic investment decisions.

The actions resulted in significant advances, such as the installation of satellite Internet antennas, improved terrestrial access, support for environmental inspection, and continued assistance to families in the reduced flow stretch (TVR) of the Xingu River. Social infrastructure initiatives were also completed, namely resettlement, psychosocial support and improved sanitation.

Investments amounted to BRL 2.3 million in 2024, totaling BRL 161.1 million between 2021 and 2024. With the mitigation of the plant’s social and economic impacts and significant contributions to local communities, the program was completed with the approval of the environmental agency.
