Given the magnitude of Norte Energia’s operations and the amount of transactions and taxes collected, the Company is subject to “monitoring of the largest taxpayers” by the government, both within the reach of the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service and the State of Pará Finance Department, which implies permanent contact and monitoring by the due inspection bodies. In this respect, Norte Energia’s relationship with tax authorities and other stakeholders is based on the principles and guidelines set out in the Company’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.
The approach to actions that affect public policies is consistent with that of electricity trade associations of which Norte Energia is a member and which have interests in common with the Company. The processes for collecting and evaluating stakeholder opinions and concerns are many. Internally, this is done as part of internal controls established by the Superintendence of Internal Controls, Risks and Compliance, as well as periodic internal audits. As for shareholders, opinions are collected by the Audit, Compliance and Risk Committee and the Finance Committee, which is done monthly. Moreover, any external concerns can be raised through the Company’s various communication channels (e.g. institutional website and whistleblower channel).
