Sanitary and industrial liquid effluents are treated in effluent treatment units and in water and oil separator boxes, meeting the standards defined by law and internal regulations (Conama No. 430/2011, MS Ordinance No. 888/2021, the IFC, ANA, IP-PR-0 and FR01‑IP‑PR-046). In 2024, isolated parameter excursions were recorded for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total sulfide and total nitrogen concentrations at the Belo Monte and Pimental HPPs, all of which were properly treated and resolved. The Xingu River remains as a Class 2 water body, supporting multiple uses including water supply, recreation, and irrigation.

Norte Energia adopted a methodology based on the return coefficient, which establishes that 80% of all water collected, as reported in indicator 303-3, is subsequently discarded in the form of liquid effluents. Therefore, the volume of discarded water was estimated by applying this proportion to the total amount of water collected.
