Norte Energia S.A. is a private company responsible for the operation, maintenance and exploration of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Complex (Belo Monte HPP) on the Xingu River, in the northern region of Brazil, in the state of Pará. Established as a special purpose company, the company obtained the concession in 2010 and received a license from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) to start generating energy in 2015. The company’s activities take place in Brasília/DF, where its administrative headquarters are located; Altamira/PA, the hub municipality of the project region; and Vitória do Xingu/PA, where the physical structure of the Belo Monte HPP is located. By December 2023, the company had 475 employees, in addition to outsourced and/or temporary employees. During the year, it generated 3,598 average MW1, and was responsible for supplying a significant part of the national market.
Structured as a publicly traded corporation, Norte Energia has shareholders from different business segments and supplementary pension funds.
