Renewable Energy Certificates attest to the origin of the renewable energy generated by Belo Monte and can be used by consumers to offset Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions within Scope 2, regarding electricity consumption.

In 2024, we sold 2.8 million renewable energy certificates (REC) through assignment and retirement processes, which placed the Company as one of the major drivers of this market in Brazil.

Green Energy Project

We are committed to contributing to the transition to a cleaner and more efficient energy matrix through the development of innovative projects that integrate technology, sustainability, and a positive impact on the territories surrounding our operations. In 2024, we strengthened initiatives aimed at diversifying energy sources, decarbonizing operations, and expanding the use of renewable energy.

With the aim of expanding access to renewable sources and reducing greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions, the Green Energy project promotes the replacement of fossil fuel-based energy generation with sustainable solutions, directly benefiting local communities.

The project also includes electric mobility as a vector for innovation and decarbonization in river transport. Following studies developed in 2023 in partnership with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), we moved forward with the acquisition of electric propulsion equipment on the national and international markets, and installed two electric charging stations for batteries. The development of prototypes of 8 and 10 meter electric vessels continues to be the core of the strategy to progressively replace fossil fuel-powered voadeira speedboats, aligning the region’s mobility with the principles of energy transition and sustainable electrification.

It is also worth noting that in 2024 the Altamira Solar Power Plant (SPP) began operating, with an installed capacity of 4MW, and began to meet, with 100% clean and renewable energy, the electricity demand of Norte Energia’s consumer units in the state of Pará. As a result, the energy generated by Altamira SPP contributed to offsetting emissions associated with the Company’s electricity acquisition, reinforcing Norte Energia’s commitment to energy transition and reducing its carbon footprint.

The actions combined within the scope of Green Energy and the energy efficiency strategy not only expand the use of renewable and clean sources, but also reaffirm Norte Energia’s role as an active agent in the Brazilian energy transition.

Complementing this effort, the Company’s solar power project reached new milestones in 2024, with the implementation of post-concession technical adjustments, integration with the SCADA system and improvements in tracking systems. The initiative reinforces the diversification of the energy matrix operated by Norte Energia and demonstrates our management capacity in high-performance solar energy projects. This is a relevant step towards strengthening climate resilience, energy efficiency and the decarbonization of our operations.

Additionally, Norte Energia conducts Research, Development and Innovation (PDI) projects regulated by the Brazilian National Power Agency (ANEEL), which contribute to the electricity sector and society. Please visit to learn more: https://www.norteenergiasa.com.br/pdi/sobre-o-programa.
